Hi All!

I’m so excited to share this author with you all as I’ve read a few of her books and loved all of them! Please welcome Jennifer Lowery and her latest work, The Maze!

Hi Just a Reader’s Ramblings and all you fabulous readers out there *waves* Jennifer Lowery Author picThank you so much for having me today! My romantic suspense, The Maze, released this month so I’m very excited to be here! Thank you so much for sharing it with me!!

In honor of my release I am giving away an e-book copy of any one of my books (go to my WEBSITE to choose) to one lucky commenter so please leave me a comment with your EMAIL so I can contact you if you win!!

I love music almost as much as I love writing. Probably because my hubby played in a band when I met him and my son has his own band now. Yeah, practice in my basement every weekend, lol. For most of my stories I have playlists. Songs that fit my story and my characters, the mood of the story, the theme. For The Maze I had a pretty short playlist, but it was intense and fit my story perfectly. Want to see it? Maybe you’ll recognize some of the bands. Or maybe it’ll show my age, lol.

There is one song in particular that I just know was written for The Maze. The lyrics, the riffs, and, oh, James Hetfield singing-yep, meant to be! I wrote most of my ms to this song. See if you know it: Metallica-Until It Sleeps. It captured my heroine, Attie, and all she suffered so perfectly. Then Noah, her rock.

And now, for the rest of my playlist:

Metallica-Load and Reload

See, told you it was short, lol. But, these awesome artists got me through the writing of The Maze and I thank them for it! To this day whenever I hear any song off any of these albums I am taken back to the scenes I was writing when I heard them and the emotions I felt as I wrote them. I fall in love with Noah and Attie and this story all over again J

For everyone who signs up for my NEWSLETTER you will receive an e-book copy of my short story, Taking Chances ($.99 value) for FREE!

Thank you for having me today!! I just want to send out a big THANK YOU to all my readers out there! Without you I wouldn’t be here. My wish is to one day meet each and every one of you so I can personally thank you for your generosity and support!
All my best,

He lunged, and she sidestepped, but he anticipated her move and caught her with a blow to her midsection that knocked the breath out of her. She doubled over, gasping for air. Carlos took advantage and moved in. He knocked her to her knees and brought a hand down on her shoulder.

She cried out when pain erupted behind her stitches. She felt them pull free as Carlos dug his fingers into her flesh through the bandage. Nausea rolled over her in waves as her vision blurred. Carlos didn’t play fair and he hated to lose. He saw her weakness and went after it. She was helpless to stop him. Pain paralyzed her

“Do you surrender, mi amor?” Carlos asked, his fingers digging deeper until she cried out.

“No,” she managed to choke out. “Never, and I will sleep with Noah again if I decide to, you bas—”

She was cut off by the shouts of men outside the ring and lifted her eyes to see a former Navy SEAL taking on six armed men with deadly intentions. Bodies flew in all directions as Noah moved steadily through them to get to her. He had a look she had seen many times in the past. He was a machine and would kill anyone that got in his way.

Attie used the distraction and took advantage. She chopped Carlos in the shin with the flat of her hand. It was enough to catch him unaware and when the pressure eased on her shoulder she dropped and rolled away. She saw Noah reach for the ropes as he prepared to swing into the ring at the same time one of the thugs he’d felled raised his weapon.

She knew what was going to happen and she couldn’t allow it. She would never make it through this without Noah at her side. He was her rock. Despite the past, she needed and wanted him here with her. They could sort through the rest later. For now, she wanted him by her side.

“No, I surrender,” she shouted to Carlos, hating how the words tasted like poison on her tongue, but for Noah, she would do it.

A slow, feral smile spread across his face as Carlos held up a hand for a cease-fire. Noah was inside the ring before the shot rang out. He grabbed Attie by the elbow and pulled her to her feet before shoving her behind his back, serving as a barrier between her and Carlos. This time Attie didn’t argue.

“Atalanta surrendered to me to save your life, Noah. Quite an honor. She doesn’t like to lose.”

“She didn’t lose.”

“By default she did and now she’ll pay the consequences.”

“I’m not finished with you. What do you say I give you someone more your size to play with?”

“You don’t approve of my sparring with Atalanta?” Carlos sounded genuinely surprised.

“Give me one minute.”

“You think you can take me in one minute?”

Attie knew Carlos wouldn’t back down from a challenge. It was a rare treat for him to find a sparring partner with equally matched skill.

“Try me.”

Warm blood seeped down her back and she hurt all over, but she wasn’t going to let Noah do this. If he killed Santiago now, then they may never find Brendan or get out of here. She stepped around him and positioned herself between the two men, struggling to stay focused.

“Do what you’re going to do to me, Carlos. Leave him out of it.”

The blow came hard and fast to her cheek. The force of it twisted her head to the side as pain exploded behind her eyes. She staggered, her face bumping into Noah’s chest. She would have fallen if he hadn’t caught her. He carried her to the corner and set gently down so that her back was against the ropes.

She looked up when Noah cupped her cheek. In his eyes was tender concern mixed with a look of censure that lacked anger. He was upset with her for going along with this in the first place.

“Will you stay here for one damn minute?”

“You don’t need to do this.” Not for me.

“Yes, I do,” he said and with one last, intense look, rose to his feet and turned to face Carlos.

What she saw then chilled her to the bone and she knew she would never see anything like it again.

The man she was afraid to love fought for her.

Sunday Snippet: May I Have This Dance

Hi All, seeing as it is Father’s day, I thought I’d share a snippet from May I Have This Dance between Sebastian and his father. Warning this shows a bit of the tension between them, you’ll have to read more just to find out how their relationship turns out.  As for all those fathers out there, have a great one today!

Freshly showered and dressed in clean clothes, Sebastian entered his father’s office. The scent of cigars and books permeated the air.

Behind his huge antique desk, Armando Reyes sat in a leather swivel chair, staring at the estate’s expansive gardens, back to him. “You kept me waiting,” he said.

“I needed a shower.” More to collect his thoughts than get clean, but his father didn’t need an explanation. Sebastian sat in a burgundy, plush chair in front of the desk. “So what is it you wanted to talk to me about?”

“What do you think?” His father faced him. “I leave the party I am hosting and find my thirty-year-old son fighting with a bunch of riff-raff instead of toasting history-making legislation. I’ve sat here for half an hour, trying to figure out what to do. What is it you want, Sebastian?”

“Why bother asking, Father? You don’t care.”

“Try me.”

He ached to tell him the truth about the dance studio, but Father wouldn’t understand. Perhaps he could remind him. “Do you remember Saturdays when Mom was alive, before she got sick?”

Father’s brow creased. “Movie Saturdays?”

“Yeah. We’d go to a matinee, have dinner somewhere nice and then the three of us would come back and dance to jazz. Mom knew all the greats, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Miles Davis—”

“Where are you going with this?”

Sebastian sighed. A framed picture of his father, mother and him, sat on a bookshelf across the room. “We were happy.”

“Nothing lasts forever.”

Featured Author Thursday: D’Ann Lindun

Hi All!

It’s that time again! I get to share another great author with you all. This week, I’ll be my author picsharing D’Ann Lindun and her latest work, Ride a Falling Star. Enjoy!

Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there’s just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending. D’Ann’s particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, two ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories!
And now for an awesome blurb and excerpt from Ride a Falling Star:

A stubborn Cowboy. A feisty Showgirl. One mobster determined to kill them both.Ride a Falling Star

When showgirl Ava Demassi witnesses a mob hit, she has only one thought—get away. She runs for her life, straight into the pickup of saddle-bronc champ, Levi Callahan.

The last thing Levi expects is another rodeo devotee to jump into his truck, let alone one so desperate. But when a killer gives chase, he realizes she isn’t his run of the mill fan. Unable to save his fiancé from being murdered years ago, he won’t make the same mistake twice.

Even when the odds seem stacked against them, will Ava and Levi find the one thing in life they’ve been missing, or will a hired killer cost them everything?

“This is like a bad movie,” the cowboy said. “Go out for a few drinks with friends, and what do you know…a pretty girl hops in your truck…then you’re on the run…hellfire.”

“I’m sorry I got you involved.” Ava wanted to crawl under the seat and stay there. This guy didn’t deserve any of this. “Let’s find a police station and you can go about your business.”

“It won’t be that simple,” he said. “He shot at you, hit my truck. That makes me a witness. Besides, I can’t just throw you out at the front door and leave you there.”

“I’m sorry,” Ava repeated.

“Yeah, me too. My backers aren’t going to like this one bit.”

“You’re an athlete?” She glanced at him again. A cowboy hat. Jeans. Boots. The arm of his right sleeve covered with sponsor patches. A big belt buckle shining under the street lights. It dawned on her he’d probably been in town with the National Finals Rodeo. “A rodeo cowboy?”

“I ride saddle broncs.”

“Wow.” She was suitably impressed. Rodeo cowboys came into the Blue Valentine every December during the two weeks of the National Finals Rodeo. Some of the girls talked about how sexy some of the bull riders were, but Ava had never dated a cowboy.

“You see that guy?” The cowboy’s terse question brought her back to the present.

A quick glance over her shoulder showed nothing. “No. Look, I’m close to my house. Why don’t you take me there? I’ll call the police from home.”

“Better idea. Dial 911 and have them meet us there.”

She’d been so rattled, the thought of dialing 911 hadn’t even occurred to her. “Super plan.”

His sardonic grin flashed in the dark. “I have them from time to time.”

In spite of her fear, she smiled tremulously. “Good to know.”

Thanks for visiting today, for those of you not quite ready to part, D’Ann loves to hear from readers! Please contact her at:

Monday Mini Excerpt

Hi All,

Thought I’d share a short excerpt from Blood Eternal, probably one of my most favorite scenes to imagine in this book. I feel it very sad, yet revealing of what exist between Luke and Savannah:

“Could you promise me you would never kill again?” Savannah’s voice broke on the last two

words, as if it cost everything to say them.

“No.” Luke would never make a promise he could not keep. Even now he made plans to

save her. If those plans involved killing Lorenzo, he would do so without a second thought.

“Why not?”

“Death is a part of me. You stated you could not change for anyone ever again. I cannot

change who I am, either. As much as I want to.” He brushed her chin with his fingers. “I could

not live with myself if anything were to happen to you, understand?”

“I wish I could,” she said.

His chest seized at her words. The road curved ahead, slithering like a snake through

verdant landscape. A heavy mist glowed silver beneath the moon’s light, its arms stretched and

wafting across the hills. The lonely scene spoke to him. Its rhythm would have matched his

heart’s beat, had he possessed one.

Featured Author Thursday: Karen Lopp

Hi All!

I’m here to share another wonderful author with you all. This week, I’ll be sharing Karen Lopp and her work, Splintered Lies.IMG_0712 Take it away, Karen!

Stories have always been a part of my life, from books to tales passed down from my ancestors that brought history to life. Danger, struggles and the will power to overcome are all found in the rich legacy of my family tree. Inspiration from their lives inspired me to write what I love. Branching out to contemporary suspense has been another dream come true. I hope my stories bring you entertainment and inspiration.

I live in the heart of the southwest.

I love history of all times and places. And my second but equal love of suspense fills my books.

And now for her awesome cover of Splintered Lies:

Detective Rissa Marten sacrificed her only chance for a normal life to put a drug lord behind bars. Now, her life in the shadows has to be brought to life to save the man she has secretly loved for years. With a price on her head can she risk letting him know?

Detective Jerah Qassem has built his career as an undercover agent in the dangerous world of drug cartels. But when a ghost from his past is resurrected can he overcome his bitterness in time to save her life?

Jerah Qassem had never been more grateful for his years of undercover training than at this moment. Fingers tight around the tumbler to stop the tremors, he watched the apparition glide up to the bar, and wondered if someone had laced his drink with a hallucinogen. Mary was dead. He had nightmares or wet dreams about her most nights for the last eight years.

It wasn’t only the woman’s face that had his insides swirling like a hurricane. It was the way she moved. Long, smooth strides, shoulders straight and eyes darting around like a caged cat. Mary had always been casting looks over her shoulder as if she expected someone to jump out and chase her. But those legs were just as toned and shapely as Mary’s had been. She had been athletic and grabbed every chance she could to romp around the beach. Even the hair was the exact same color of ripened wheat and bounced just below her shoulders. Just like Mary had worn it.

Chills erupted all over his body and cold fingers caressed the nape of his neck. Unable to blink, Jerah stared at the ghost of Mary. The girl he had sent to her death in a fit of anger. The girl he had fallen in love with, yet had been too proud and ambitious to acknowledge until she was gone. Forever.

Jerah closed his eyes against the jarring memory of two firemen holding him back from the charred remains of the building he had sent Mary into as three body bags were carried out. A shudder rattled down his spine. He had relived that day too often. When he glanced back at the bar, the woman had taken a seat and smiled at the bartender. Jerah knew that smile. The same smile that once had almost melted his resolve to not get involved. He had had a career to build. Mary had stirred up thoughts of forever and love, things he hadn’t been ready for. The temptation had been great. But somehow, he persevered and tossed away the best thing that had ever happened to him.

Air exploded from his chest and Jerah shook his head. He did not believe in ghosts. Prickles sprang up his legs as if his blood had decided to flow again. He tugged his leaden body from the chair and stalked to the bar. “Give me a shot of Wild Turkey.” Needing the fortification, he gulped down the amber liquid. Fire burned down his throat. Nope, he wasn’t dreaming. Hands braced on the edge of the bar, he turned to the woman at his side.
